When you send a quote or an invoice by email in Plannit, you can view its « Read » status in the grid or directly in the document, under the status or in the history.
❗ Do not confuse this with the « Read » and « Unread » statuses in the client messaging system.
This article explains only the read status of the email sent to your client.
How the « Read » status works
The « Read » status indicates whether the email has been opened by your client.
To detect opens, Plannit uses a standard technique called a tracking pixel:
An invisible 1x1 pixel image, unique to each email, is embedded in the message
When the client opens the email and images are loaded
The pixel is downloaded, confirming that the email was opened
👉 If the pixel is loaded, the status changes to ✔ Read.
Why the « Read » status does not always appear
It is possible that a client has opened your email, but the status remains empty (—).
Here are the most common reasons:
1. Privacy protection
Some email services, especially Apple Mail (iPhone, iPad, Mac), use a feature called Mail Privacy Protection.
When enabled, this feature:
prevents tracking pixels from loading
or loads them anonymously, without indicating whether the email was actually opened
👉 Result: the « Read » status may not update, even if the client read the message.

2. Images disabled
If the client:
blocks images in emails
or does not click « display images »
👉 Result: the pixel does not load, so the open cannot be detected.
Key takeaways
In most cases, the « Read » label is a reliable indicator that the email has been opened by your client. However, several privacy measures introduced in recent years by major technology providers may prevent tracking.
In grids:
✔ « Read » means the email was opened and detected
— does not necessarily mean the email was not read
