Unlocking a closed accounting period in QuickBooks online

An error message tells you that an accounting period is closed and prevents you from importing transactions into QuickBooks online.

Here's how to unlock an accounting period in QuickBooks online:

  1. Before you begin, log in to QuickBooks online as the Main administrator or Company administrator. Only administrators can make these changes.

  2. Go to the Settings menu, then select Account and Settings.

  3. Select the Advanced options tab.

  4. Select Modify ✎ in the Accounting section.

  5. Deactivate the Close accounts option.
